Introduced last year, Industry Out-takes concludes the Saturday afternoon agenda by concentrating on that essential tool for practitioners of the live music industry – a sense of humour. Anecdotes abound in this sector of the entertainment business, and with longstanding ILMC supporter Carl Leighton-Pope taking the helm this year, expect more than a few tall touring tales and laughs. Calling on an all-star cast from across the business to recount their finest, worst or most pivotal moments, it’s the final session of the day, and the only way to wind down into the evening…

About Carl Leighton-Pope

Carl Leighton-Pope started his music career in 1972 when he opened a recording studio in South Wales and managed a band called Sassafras, signed to Chrysalis Records. Sassafras toured the UK, Europe and the USA in the mid-seventies. After they broke up in 1977, Carl joined NEMS agency and signed acts including Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Patti Smith, The Motors, UFO and Camel. He formed the Performing Artists Network Agency in 1979 and extended his representation to acts including Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Huey Lewis, SAGA and The Fixx and went on to manage UFO.

In 1983, Carl signed Bryan Adams for his agency and Matt Bianco for management, taking both acts with him a year later, along with SAGA, when he set up Bonaire Records, publishing and management company with offices in London, Los Angeles and Munich.

In 1991, he started the Leighton-Pope Organisation enjoying substantial success touring Bryan Adams, The Chippendales, Bonnie Tyler, Van Morrison and more around Europe.

In 2003, Michael Bublé joined the list of clients. Michael was signed prior to his first album and has enjoyed substantial success in Europe and South Africa.

In 2004, The Harlem Globetrotters was added, the brand needed to be upgraded and rediscovered. In Europe in 2015, over 100 shows were performed.

In 2006, Keith Urban and Billy Ocean joined the roster. The key to Carl’s success is development of new talent. In the past two years, Lake Street Dive, Todd Dorigo and Dagny began their journey with L-Po.

In addition to the agency Carl has written and produced the musical ‘Carnaby Street’ which toured the UK in 2013 and will return in 2017.
